Sour Cream Apple Pie is a great alternative apple pie recipe. Don’t you just love those sour cream flavored doughnuts and danishes. Have ever wanted to put it into a delicious apple pie? Well even if you haven’t thought of that we have, and it is definitely one of our best ideas. This pie has all the flavor of Classic Apple Pie, but with a great sour cream taste. Anyone who likes sour cream will love this recipe! It is very easy to make, and is great during all seasons. This pie is similar to our Dutch Apple Pie because of all the cream, and even though you might put on some weight it is for sure worth it.
Ingredients:
For the Topping:
- One ten-inch pie crust
- three tablespoons of softened unsalted butter
- one-quarter cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
- one teaspoon of cinnamon
- two tablespoons of all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
- one and one-thirds cup of sour cream
- two-thirds cup of sugar
- one-quarter teaspoon of salt
- two teaspoons of vanilla extract
- two large eggs
- three tablespoons of all-purpose flour
- five large Granny Smith apples (about 2 1/4 pounds)
Directions:
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to one-eighth of an inch thick and fit it to a ten inch pie crust, chill the crust while making the filling.
- To make the topping, mix the butter, sugar, cinnamon and flour in a small bowl until the mixture is combined well, chill the topping while making the filling.
- To make the filling, whisk the sour cream, sugar, salt, vanilla eggs and flour together in a large bowl until the mixture is smooth. Core, peel and slice up the apples and add them to the mixture. Stir until mixed well.
- Add the filling evenly into the pie crust.
- Sprinkle the topping over everything and put into an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees F.
- Let the pie bake for about a little over an hour and let cool.
