Classic Apple Pie Recipe
Everybody loves apple pie, and the most popular apple pie recipe that is enjoyed by thousands of people every day is of course classic apple pie. This traditional pie is made of just warm apples, crispy pie crust and and a sprinkling of sugar. Enjoy this great dessert with family and friends, or just to satisfy a craving! Ingredients
- sour cream pastry that is double crust
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tbsp of sugar that is coarse
- 8 apples (preferably McIntosh apples)
- 3/4 of a cup of fine sugar
- 2tbsp of cornstarch
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- pinch of both nutmeg and salt
- 2 tbsp of soft butter
Directions
make sure you use a nine inch pan for this pie.
- Peel the apples and cut them into thick slices.
- Then place the apple slices into a large bowl and in a separate bowl mix the nutmeg, salt, both sugars, cinnamon, and cornstarch.
- Mix both bowls of ingredients together until the apples are coated.
- Now roll out the pie crust until it is about 3mm thick and press it into the pan. Trim the edges and pour in the filling, and put dots of butter on it.
- With the remaining pastry roll it our and whisk egg yolk with about 1 tbsp of water and then brush it onto the edges of the crust.
- Now fold the edges of the upper layer of the pastry over the top and brush some more egg yolk of the top, cut steam vents and put a bit of coarse sugar on top.
- Finally bake the pie in a 450 degree F oven for about 10 minutes, or until the pie is golden and the apples are bubbling.
- Lastly let the pie cool for a little over an hour.
